The Loneliest Whale in the World.In 2004, The New York Times wrote an article about the loneliest whale in the world. Scientists have been tracking her since 1992 and they discovered the problem: She isn’t like any other baleen whale. Unlike all other whales, she doesn’t have friends. She doesn’t have a family. She doesn’t belong to any tribe, pack or gang. She doesn’t have a lover. She never had one. Her songs come in groups of two to six calls, lasting for five to six seconds each.

But her voice is unlike any other baleen whale. It is unique—while the rest of her kind communicate between 12 and 25hz, she sings at 52hz. You see, that’s precisely the problem. No other whales can hear her. Every one of her desperate calls to communicate remains unanswered. Each cry ignored. And, with every lonely song, she becomes sadder and more frustrated, her notes going deeper in despair as the years go by.

Citizen take to the street to stop Lynas

SMSL urges the authorities to exercise restraint to allow citizens their democratic rights and to give them the 

space to peacefully express themselves in the forthcoming Sunday’s Himpunan Hijau 2.0 rally in Kuantan.

Chairperson of SMSL, Mr Tan Bun Teet explained, “The people have fought hard to stop Lynas and a number of other environmental problems. It is our duty as responsible and caring citizens to keep our country and our family safe.”

Earlier this month, a temporary operating licence was issued to Lynas Malaysia, a wholly owned operation of Australia’s Lynas Corporation,for its controversial rare earth refinery plant in Gebeng, an industrial estate about 20 km from Kuantan.

“We have tried every possible avenue and yet the Government has gone ahead with its bad decision which threatens our future. It is understandable that this will spark outrage and anger amongst people.” Said Haji Ismail Abu Bakar, Vice-Chairperson of SMSL.

He added, “Many families living in kampungs along the coast in Pahang will be directly affected once Lynas starts to dump its waste water into the South China Sea. These families depend on the seafood and tourism industry. They run small businesses to sustain their livelihoods. Who will want to buy contaminated seafood? Who will want to holiday next to a toxic plant?”

SMSL is disappointed that the Government has not taken on board grave concerns of the public which leave the people no choice but to take to the street to protest. The injustice is felt everywhere, not just in Kuantan but the whole of Malaysia. The good reputation of Malaysia is at stake over the handling of this issue.

The Lynas issue is a problem for ALL Malaysians. The pollution will spread over a wide area,even into our ASEAN neighbours through the South China Sea. Contaminated seafood and agricultural produce can create serious food safety issue not just for the people of Kuantan but to all the consumers of agriculture and seafood and seafood products. Air pollution from the Lynas plant can be carried far and wide by the north eastern monsoon wind.

Where will Lynas find a permanent location for its waste? Which state in Malaysia or which town in Pahang will be the next target?

Having a polluting industry will deter investment from clean technology and ethical companies which is the way of the future. Rare earth oxides are crucial raw materials but locating it in an ecologically sensitive area so close to so many families is a bad and regressive move.

“SMSL has engaged a strong team of experts to prepare for our legal action with the help of the Pahang Bar. We have strong grounds and we want to leave no stone unturned to present the strongest possible case. Letting Lynas operate is NOT an option.”

The Help

The Help directed by Tate Taylor was a very touched movie. It shows the racist between the white people and black people. The black people worked as a maid and sometimes they have been calling as a Negro which meant slavery.

In this movie, Skeeter was a white girl who also a journalist who wanted to interview the maids. No maid wanted to be interview as 1^st because they might worried that they will be in troubled. Aibileen was the 1^st one who agreed to be interviewed. Minny did not agree with the interview as she has the same thoughts with others that the maid will get into the trouble but she was agreed to interview later on.  

The maid was treated badly, most of the time they were accused for stealing and fire them.  

They were not allowed to use the same toilet because they believed that the black people bring some diseases. Minny was immediately fired by Hilly for after using her toilet. Hilly was a racist person. She accuses Abilileen for stealing the sliver and wanted to fire her. 

Aiblileen was Elizabeth’s maid; she has been taking care of her daughter Mae. She knew that Elizabeth is not able to take care of her children by herself.  The sad part is when Elizabeth was force to accept the unacceptable firing of Aibileen and Mae is crying at the window shouting for Aibileen.

Minny was lucky to meet Celia after being fired by Hilly. Celia was married to a rich guy which is Hilly ex boyfriend. Celia was outcast by the others. She wanted a maid to help cleaning the big house and cooking without her husband knowing it. Celia treated Minny far way better than Hilly. She even eats together with Minny at the same table. Minny taught Celia on cooking and also comfort her when she is upset. 

At the end, Celia and her husband prepared a warm meal cooked by Celia for Minny. Minny was very touched.

Skeeter had finally submitted her writing about the maids and the book (The Help) was published. The book was sold a thousand copies with a very good response. Skeeter and her boyfriend had broken up after the book was published. He think that she is being very selfish and rude with the chapter about Hilly had eaten the chocolate pie that contains Minny’s shit. 

BIG BANG IS BACK!

Big Bang (Korean: 빅뱅; commonly stylized as BIGBANG) is a popular South Korean boy group formed by CEO Yang Hyun Seok of YG Entertainment in 2006, one of the largest entertainment companies in Asia. Big Bang is considered to be one of the most successful South 

Korean music groups both within and outside Asia. The group consists of leader G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri.

Big Bang received the "Best Male Group" and "Song of the Year" awards for Lies at the 2007 Mnet Music Awards. 

In recent years, the members had branched out to do solo activities. Taeyang and G-Dragon had released solo materials while the remaining three had started acting in both dramas and musicals and participating in different variety programs.

Starting on January 20, 2012, YG Entertainment began releasing teasers for Big Bang's 5th mini-album Alive, released on February 29. Preorders for Alive amounted to 260,000 copies in two weeks.

Plant vs. Zombies

Plants vs. Zombies is a tower defense action video game developed and originally published by PopCap Games for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. The game involves a homeowner using many varieties of plants to repel an army of zombies from "eating their brains".

It was first released on May 5, 2009, and made available on Steam on the same day. A version for iOS was released in February 2010, and an HD version for the iPad. An extended Xbox Live Arcade version introducing new gameplay modes and features was released on September 8, 2010. 

PopCap released a Nintendo DS version on January 18, 2011 with content unique to the platform. The PlayStation 3 version was released in February 2011 also with added new co op and versus modes found in the Xbox 360 version.

An Android version of the game, exclusive to the Amazon Android App Store, was released on May 31, 2011. On February 16, 2012, a version was released for BlackBerry PlayBook.

Furthermore, both the original Windows and Mac version of the game have been re-released with additional content in a Game of the Year version.

The game received a positive response from critics, and was nominated for multiple Interactive Achievement Awards, alongside receiving praise for its musical score.

Plants vs. Zombies has been nominated for the "Casual Game of the Year" and "Outstanding Achievement in Game Design" Interactive Achievement Awards from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences. 

The game received nominations in "Best Game Design", "Innovation", and "Best Download Game" for the Game Developers Choice Awards. Plants vs Zombies was picked by Gamezebo as one of the 'Best games of 2009

Tim Burton

Tim Burton was born August 25, 1958. He is an American film director, film producer, writer and artist. He is famous for dark, quirky-themed movies such as Bettlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare before Christmas, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride and for blockbuster such as Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Batman, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Burton worked for Walt Disney Animation Studios as an animator, storyboard artist and concept artist on films such as The Fox and the Hound, The Black Cauldron and Tron. 

However, Burton’s personal style clashed with Disney’s standards and he longed to work on solo projects.

Burton directed the cinematic spin-off of his popular character Pee-wee Herman. That gained popularity with a successful stage show at the Roxy which was turned into an HBO special. The film, was made a budget of 8 million and grossed more than $40 million at the box office.

Bettlejuice, a supernatural comedy horror about a young couple forced to cope with life after death. Starring Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, and featuring Michael Keaton, the film grossed $80 million on a relatively low budget and won an Academy Award for Best Makeup.

Batman was his first bid budget film. Burton repeatedly clashed with the film's producers, Jon Peters and Peter Guber, but the most remarkable disaster involved casting. When the film opened in June 1989, it was backed by the biggest marketing and merchandising campaign in film history at the time, and became one of the biggest box office hits of all time, grossing well over US$250 million in the US alone and $400 million worldwideand earning critical acclaim for the performances of both Keaton and Nicholson, as well as the film's production aspects. This film won the Academy Award for Best Director.

His coming soon movie "Dark Shadow" will be on the cinema on May that once again starred by Johnny Deep.

Bye bye Single life. Mizz Nina married to Noh

The celebrity couple solemnised their union in a private akad nikah ceremony held at 9pm at her parents' home in Ukay Heights, Ampang, Selangor.

Giving away the bride is her billionaire banker dad, Tan Sri Azman Hashim, who is the AmBank Group Chairman.

Also present were her mum, Puan Sri Arishah Tuanku Maamor, Noh's mum, Dayang Soraya Abang Fadzail and 150 of their close family members as well as friends.

At the akad nikah, Noh presented his gorgeous wife with seven trays of hantaran(gifts), comprising sirih junjung (betelnut), mas kahwin (bridal jewellery), a jewellery set, one iPad 2 and a traditional Sarawak cake.

He also gave her RM11,111.11 wang hantaran (bridal money).

The newlyweds, resplendent in matching black and white designer Malay traditional outfits, said they couldn't wait to start their married life.

“Alhamdulillah (Thank you Allah), I’m excited that the ceremony went smoothly. I’m also grateful that everything today had His blessings,” said Nina.

Teased if they had any immediate baby plans, the 'What You Waiting For' hitmaker laughed, and said, “Oh not yet, but if Allah wants to grant me the gift of a child as soon as possible, I will be extremely thankful.

“Noh and I want to dedicate the first two years of our marriage to building our respective careers. We want to build a strong foundation for our family and be good role models to our children."

Nina and Noh will host a lavish wedding reception at the Shangri-La hotel in KL on July 3, followed by a media reception at the Double Tree hotel in KL on July 6 before heading to Maldives, the United Kingdom and Rome for their honeymoon.

Prior to recording as a solo artist, Mizz Nina was a member of the Malaysian-based band The Tarik Crew. She released her debut solo album, What You Waiting For in July 2010.

What You Waiting For has 14 tracks, with four songs in Malay. One of her songs, "Kurnia", features Malaysian singer, Noh Hujan. One of her tracks, "Let Me C U Get It", features an American rapper called Theo Martins.

Mizz Nina has teamed up with the American rapper Flo Rida on a song called "Take Over". The music video was filmed in Miami. When it was released, the music video earned 140,508 views on YouTube.

The sudden death of singer Whitney Houston at age 48 shocked fans and musicians all over the world. The outpouring of grief was immediate, with one common refrain: The world had lost one of its greatest singers.

KFC Fighting Incident

The issue of a fight that occurred at a fast food restaurant, KFC in i-City, Shah Alam that involves between the restaurant’s staff and a Chinese man, Danny Ng recently became one of the hot topic in Malaysia.

After the incident, people started to point fingers to one another and the debate about the issue was roaring in the internet.

Many gave their reactions towards the clip and stated that the reason why it happened was because Ng started to throw a few slur to the staff.

The woman who recorded the incident at the fast food restaurant said that she heard a loud argument between staffs and customers.

The woman, who wanted to be known as Jess, during a press conference on Saturday, said that she had heard customers telling the staffs that they should inform customers that the branch had run out of chicken.

Jess said, one of the staffs reacted by telling customers not to be rude.

Few moments later, the fight triggered.

Jess who was at the i-City KFC from 9.30pm to 11.00pm on Monday said that the restaurant was flooding with customers.

Despite all that, another video clip was uploaded by another Youtube user, reenababyful who recorded the incident.

It was obvious that Ng did raise his voice to the KFC staff.

But, it became worse as Ng’s rage got even worse, only to trigger the fight.

However, Ng in his statement with ADUN DAP Segambut, Lim Lip Eng, denied that he triggered such incident.

For this issue, the police would take actions on any media that raised racial issues in the report regarding the incident that occurred at the restaurant.

Shah Alam Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Zahedi Ayob said, police also will take actions on those who commented on Youtube with racial slur, following the incident.

He added, as for now, police had only took actions on the issue under Section 323 Penal Code.

“We had only taken actions on the fight. But after that (the video) was uploaded to Youtube, we would take actions on racial comments that were made.

“If the issue (racial issue) became a different case. If the media raised the racial issue (regarding the incident), we will take actions,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini today. – NAIMAH SHAARI
