MY FM deejays Jack Lim, Wan Wai Fun,
Royce Tan and Bernard Hiew held the show together in their capacity as hosts
and entertained the crowd with their wit and gift of the gab.
The 3rd MY Astro Music Awards was jointly organised by MY FM and
Astro and presented by Volkswagen.
IT
WAS a
long night for singer Nicholas Teo at the 3rd MY Astro Music Awards
presentation on March 17 at the Arena of Stars, Resorts World Genting, as his
awards were all announced towards the end of the show.
But it was well worth the wait in the
end as he was announced the winner of three of the most coveted awards that
night.
“At last, I now get to touch the
award,” Teo said as he received his first award – the MY Astro choice for best
local singer award. “I thought I was just going to be here as a performing
artiste.”
He then went up the stage again to collect the best local
male artiste award, and later, the best song of the year award where he
graciously cited Yoga Lin’s Xiang Zi You (Thinking
of Freedom) as his pick for song of the year.
Lin, however, did not leave
empty-handed as he was named best breakthrough international male singer as
well as best performing international male artiste.
Lin appeared to be in high spirits
the whole evening, practising his Cantonese – which snowballed into other
artistes also showing off their language skills – and generally hamming it up
for the audience.
Fish Leong, who took home the best
love ballad, best local female performer and best local female singer awards,
showed off her sexy side with an off-shoulder outfit and later a low-cut dress.
She thanked her genes for her ability
to sing. “My parents sing very well and of course, there’s my cousin (Z-Chen
who grabbed the best local male performer as well as best album awards),” she
said.
Teo, Chen, Leong and Jess Lee also took turns to pay tribute
to the late Whitney Houston and Fung Fei-fei, singing I Will Always Love You (Lee), One Moment in Time (Chen),
and Fung’sZhang Shen Xiang Zi (Teo and Leong). Their performance proved
to be one of the highlights of the evening.
While local singers shone, the
international artistes did not do too badly either, with Taiwanese hunk Wilbur
Pan going home with best stage performer, MY Astro choice for best
international singer, and best international male singer titles.
Fellow Taiwanese artiste Della Ding
took home best international female performer and best international female
artiste awards.
That night also saw 25 songs named as
best golden melodies.
Several singers, including Ding and
Leong, also took the opportunity to announce their upcoming concerts in
Malaysia to the delight of their fans.
